You are probably wondering what SEO stands for, what it means and most importantly how your business can benefit from it.
Basically, SEO is short for Search Engine Optimization. Search engine optimization is a methodology of strategies, techniques and tactics used to increase the number of visitors to a website by obtaining a high-ranking placement in the search results page of a search engine (SERP) — including Google, Bing, Yahoo and other search engines. A definition learned word for word from Webopedia. Well, it is actually the same definition, if truth be told. The point is that with SEO you can position your enterprise, business or your projects on top of the results page so people can find them more quickly. Therefore, you are going to be able to get your site to successfully increase web traffic.
Today, there are millions and millions of websites that are registered on the Internet. In order to visit them, most of us depend upon search engines to find what we are looking for.
These search engines have become so good that we go as far as to beatify them, calling them Saint Google for instance and worshipping them. Now, I am exaggerating. Anyways, when you search something with Google you get a results page with a lot of information showing you how many web pages that are related or relevant to what you want were found.
The important thing about this is that more than 90% of the people using Google or other search engines only look at the first page even though they have more pages to keep on looking.
They would rather type a new word or phrase on Google Search and start afresh instead of continuing their search process to the next pages. 65% of those people who only click on that first page pay attention mainly to what is known as the Golden Triangle, the first three or four results.
This is the reason why doing SEO is so crucial. If your website does not show on the first page, it is as though it did not exist, sadly enough. As most SEO Specialist says if you want to hide a corpse try the 2nd page of results on Google, nobody will find it there.
On the other hand, if people see your website on the first page or even more as part of the Golden Triangle– Brilliant! Atta boy! Damn Good Job! – , they are going to click on and enter your page. And these are not just any visitors; they will become the ideal visitors who are quite interested in what you have to offer. In other words, they will probably turn into customers, subscribers and followers.
Search Engines work by tracking mainly the keywords that are relevant to your website. As a result of this, the websites that have these words more often are normally more highly ranked. You need to make sure that you have the right amount of keywords on your website in order to get it to a well-positioned place on the results page.
In 1996, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, Stanford PhD students, created this concept. They found out that the fact that some sources can contain loads of keywords does not necessarily mean that they are more relevant.
According to both students, it is far more important how often these websites are backlinked, in simple words, more visited or referred to by other websites. So the more often your website is being referred to, the more relevant and top-ranked it becomes. It is important to mention here that the backlinks that you want on your website need to be quality backlinks.
Bottom line is that doing SEO is exceedingly important when you are interested in marketing on the web and when you want to be positioned on the top of relevant search results.
At this point, let me quote Romuald Fons: Seo is not famous for what it is but for what it achieves…What exactly does SEO do? SEO creates links, SEO does content marketing, SEO does analytics, SEO codifies, SEO plans strategies. Then, is that what SEO really is? NO!!! SEO makes you find visits with the search engines because with visits you will be able to create brands because with visits you will be able to get customers because with visits you will be able to increase sales because with visits you will be able to make loads of money.
It takes time and there are loads of things to be learned to master this technique completely. But, at the end of the day, your time and effort will pay off big time. Also, do not fear because what you really want is to create a project and expand its web traffic, not to become an SEO expert. For that you have us.
So, Let us not waste more time. Let’s get to it. Do not think twice and start doing SEO to boost your sales on the web.
