Remember that we are talking business here, it’s okay to have dreams but you have to act smart in order to fulfil them. Smart companies have SMART goals. - How can your goals be smart?

To have SMART goals means that each of your goals needs to be: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Timetable. Let’s have a closer look:

  • Specific: The more specific your goal is, the easier it will be to realize what exactly are you trying to achieve. When writing it down try to answer the Wh-Questions to make sure you are covering all the corners.

  • Measurable: How will you know when your goal is achieved? For example: Double the number of your subscribers.

  • Attainable: Is your goal realistic? This is the one thing that differs dreams from goals.

  • Relevant: You know your goal is relevant when it supports your business’s objectives, vision, or values.

  • Timetable: Schedule your goal, give it a deadline.

Its results talk for themselves making SMART goals the most popular goal-setting framework for business. Acknowledging and using them is making sure your goals actually lead to real business results.

2. Choose the right platform

There are plenty of different social media platforms for you to choose, but not every one of them will align with your goals. You have to find the platform(s) suitable for your business.

Does your social media marketing plan include promotional videos? - Try Youtube!

Do you want to connect more with your audience? -Why not Facebook? Maybe Twitter?

Want to show a unique view of your business with a visual approach? - Try Instagram or Pinterest!

3. Identify your audience's persona

Being aware of your audience and relating to them is a must. That’s why you created a social media profile, to gather more customers by relating to them.

Identifying your buyer’s persona means to know the age, gender, place of residence, average income, and other facts of your regular buyer. Without this information, is nearly impossible to attract the attention of your target audience.

This data is the key to create social media content that your customers will enjoy, like, comment, and share. It’s also vital for planning how to turn your followers into customers.

4. Research the competition

A full attack social media strategy is a great idea, we all have learned that The best defense is a good offense, but that doesn’t mean underestimating your competition. You will have to keep being smart in order to fully achieve the success you expected.

Do a competitive analysis to be aware of your competition and learn from them and by doing it you’ll learn more than you think about what you should be doing and what to avoid. Keep an eye on everyone and use correctly the information you collect to evaluate your goals and plans.

5. Find Inspiration

While it’s important for a brand to be unique, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be inspired by other businesses strategies that work great on social media.

Have a look at your competitors content and let it motivate you. Maybe you’ll find a great idea that can be adopted and adapted. That’s the idea, research content, and strategies and then make it your own to create something even bigger!

6. Market your products via social media

With everything you’ve learned so far you are making your first steps to start your social media plan, just hold your horses a bit more! Let’s talk about market and sells on social media:

Marketing on social media covers more than just tweeting about your brand from time to time or buying advertising on Facebook. It’s vital to have an appropriate strategy to achieve peerless results.

More than just promotion, to actually succeed on social media you have to make your viewers care for your content. But you already know that since we talked a few lines back on how to identify your audience’s persona and why is it important, right?

Remember, only 20% of your content should be for advertising. By creating interesting, funny and relatable content you are not only increasing your brand’s name on the platform but also while interacting with your followers, you are making sure that they care about your post.

From there is up to you to use the social media platform strengths correctly to turn followers into customers.

7. Quality over quantity

I know that posting as much as possible and advertising to have a greater audience reach sounds tempting, but that’s not how social media works. People nowadays don’t follow everything that catches their eyes, they just ignore it.

Remember that one of your first goals is to find your audience’s persona. You have a target, a target market. That’s the people who will really care about your content and most likely turn into customers, and so you have to offer them great quality content.

For some people, having a social media account is like having your own house, they want it as perfect as possible with only things they like or need. So that they decided to follow you it means your content is important for them.

The content you provide them (what they’ll see in their daily feed) is not only reliable but also relevant to them. This last part is highly important because when someone is deciding to follow you it’s most likely that they saw a few posts of yours before they made that decision.

That’s when quality content makes its worth. Your content builds your reputation, that’s why quality over quantity is the golden rule of social media. If you post tons of bad or regular quality content your followers will start to ignore your post and end up unfollowing you.

With this lats tips you already should have an idea of what to post, the next question is when.

8. Create a content calendar

Having a posting schedule is vital.

Do you know what’s better than posting content?

- Posting it at the perfect time to get greater impact!

Depending on the social platform you choose the perfect posting time will differ, and although important, it’s not the only thing you have to care about when creating a content schedule, the perfect plan has more than a schedule. It has a calendar.

Scheduling means being prepared, your calendar should have the dates and time at which you will publish different types of content on your social media, having in the consideration the approximate time you’ll spend interacting with the audience.

Don’t forget to always be aware of important dates, trends and festivities and post accordingly to have a bigger impact on each day new events.

When it comes to content, you are all set.
